The Brick angers customers after going back on Boxing Day sale

MONTREAL – Furniture store, The Brick, is in hot water after they went back on their online Boxing Week sale.

Customers who received 50 percent additional discount on their purchases at checkout are being told the deal was a mistake.

On their Facebook page the Brick states, “the Brick apologizes for the confusion and is currently working to contact all affected customers to advise of correct pricing. We recognize the confusion that occurred and are offering to affected customers 10% of their affected online purchase price back as a credit toward their next purchase.”

Not many customers are satisfied with that response.

Ashley Cormier wrote, “this is a very disappointing solution. When I was ordering my items I kept thinking to myself how awesome The Brick was for offering such amazing deals. I was a huge fan. Would have bought many more things in the future because of it. Now, I’m hugely disappointed…and will probably never buy from The Brick again.”

A spokesperson at Quebec’s Consumer protection office told Global News that the Brick is in the wrong and is legally bound to follow through with the discount.

“The second you click “order” online, the customer has signed a contract with the merchant,” said Réal Coallier.

He explained that if the merchant doesn’t honour the price on the receipt, customers should:

  • Keep evidence of the offer (50% off) and the acceptance of the order
  • Send a legal letter to the Brick urging them to respect their end of the contract
  • File a complaint with the Office de la protection du Consommateur
  • If no result following the letter, file a claim with the small claims court
