Focus Montreal introduces Montrealers to people who are shaping our community, bringing their stories into focus.
It airs on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. and at midnight.
This week we look back at the story that made the most headlines this year in Quebec: The Quebec Charter of Values
We’ll review our coverage going back to our first interviews about the Charter in late summer.
Maclean’s journalist Martin Patriquin was one of the most outspoken opponents of the Charter and we’ll hear from him about why he finds the document so disturbing.
We also hear from the head of the Montreal Women’s Federation Alexa Conradi about fears that women’s groups were being silenced in the debate around the Charter.
And of course, we will re-air our interview with the man who created the document Bernard Drainville. We spoke to Drainville before he officially tabled Bill 60, and our conversation turned into a heated debate about why he thinks the charter is necessary, and how his proposal jeopardizes individual rights and freedoms, forcing Quebecers to choose between their job and their religion.
