Impaired related charges laid against Red Deer man awaiting trial in prior fatal collision

Edmonton – RCMP have laid more than a dozen charges against a Red Deer man who is awaiting trial in a previous fatal collision.

Sylvan Lake RCMP received a complaint Saturday of a possible impaired driver.

Police say they found a man slumped over the steering wheel of a parked and running vehicle in Sylvan Lake. According to RCMP, they woke up the man and spoke to him, before arresting him for Impaired Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle.

RCMP say they then searched the man and the vehicle, when they found cash, crack cocaine and a small amount of marijuana.

36-year-old Rodney Ross Arens is facing 14 charges, including Impaired Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle and drug related charges.

Arens is also awaiting trial in connection to a July 1, 2010 collision in Red Deer that resulted in a 13 year old boy being killed.
