Calgary Flames fire General Manager Jay Feaster

CALGARY – The Calgary Flames announced on Thursday that General Manager Jay Feaster and Assistant General Manager John Weisbrod have been let go.

Feaster took over as acting GM midway through the 2010-’11 season, before taking on the role officially for the two seasons that followed.

However, the Flames failed to qualify for the playoffs during any of those three years.

“We needed to make a change to get to the next level,” said President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke during a news conference at the Saddledome. “We want black and blue hockey here. That’s what we do in Alberta.”

“I feel for us to take the next step, we will do it quicker and better with this change,” added Burke. “I’m not kissing babies up here, this is about winning hockey games.”
