UPDATE: East Vancouver residents upset over new homeless housing

It was an angry crowd Wednesday night at the site of a former hotel in East Vancouver.

The Ramada Hotel on Hastings Street near Boundary is being turned into temporary housing for people for the homeless.

The hotel was purchased in September by the city, but area residents are upset they just heard about the housing a few weeks ago.

The city wants to use  the 60 rooms in the building until the fall of 2014, when several new supportive housing projects open.

Upset neighbours are worried about the impact it will have on their community and a nearby elementary school two blocks away.
