Salvation Army says annual Kettle Campaign donations down $200,000

The Salvation Army says their annual Kettle Campaign donations are down $200,000 this year compared to this point last year, and Christmas is less than two weeks away.

Two of their kettles have also been stolen in the past few weeks.

“We have currently raised a total of $1,347,094 in donations,” says Patricia Cuff, divisional secretary for Public Relations and Development in B.C.. “The Salvation Army in British Columbia is currently at less than 50 per cent of our target, with a goal to reach $4 million by Christmas Eve.”

The Salvation Army says in a press release that they continue to see a greater need in the community with more individuals and families relying on programs, services and resources offered.

“The dollars raised through this effort are not only used at Christmas time, but throughout the year as the funds provide resources for our overall operation for the year ahead,” says Cuff. “We want to encourage supporters to please donate when they see a kettle and help us, help others.”
