EDMONTON – Scotia Place is once again open for business following a water main break Tuesday that resulted in a power outage at the building.
A major water leak in the electrical vault of Scotia Place forced an evacuation of the downtown building’s roughly 2,500 occupants Tuesday morning.
Seven fire trucks and 30 firefighters were brought in to deal with the situation around 9:30 a.m. The crews rescued a dozen people out of elevators, and helped 30 people with disabilities out of the building.
Everyone was moved to Telus Tower as part of Scotia Place’s emergency evacuation plan.
EPCOR was working with the property manager, Morguard, to restore power and water services to the building.
And while significant progress had been made on that front, Morguard – the property manager – had advised that the building remain closed Wednesday, even though it was originally hoping to have Scotia Place open Wednesday morning.
As of 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, Morguard said the building had been reopened to tenants.
“Power has been restored at Scotia Place and the building has been reopened for tenants to return to work,” the company said in a media statement.
For more information, tenants can call 780-421-5432.
There’s still no word on what caused the water main break.
