UPDATE (Monday 3 p.m.) — The City of Kelowna says it had put a de-icing solution on some streets but earlier rainy conditions diluted the solution. It says the combination of rain, snow and rapidly dropping temperatures were perfect conditions for extra-slippery roads. Last week, the city announced that it was ready for winter. See report.
It says all trucks are out and that main and secondary routes are being taken care of. After that, the city says areas experiencing problems will be addressed.
KELOWNA — A little snow on Kelowna and area roads proved to be a little too much for local drivers.
Officials dealt with at least two rollovers Monday following a dusting of snow.
A 17-year-old male rolled his SUV at Wilkinson and Guisachan in Kelowna at around 1:30 pm.
He was the lone occupant.
RCMP say speed would appear to be a factor.
At around the same time, another motorist lost control of their vehicle in West Kelowna.
The vehicle flipped at Boucherie and Stuart roads. The crash forced the temporary closure of Boucherie.
At one point, Chute Lake Road at Lakeshore Road was also closed due to icy conditions.
