American Sign Language is used by thousands of people across Canada as a first language. It is also an important part of Deaf Culture and identity. Join Cody Zimmer as he shares his story of what it was like to grow up in a Deaf family in a predominantly hearing world, and how ASL provides him with a way to express himself. Take the opportunity to learn some important signs needed for communication in ASL. There are four opportunities to take part in this activity. These sessions are a great way to practice what you learn! Join us for one session or for all four! These sessions require advanced registration. Please call 204-289-2227 or send an email to RSVP [at] humanrights.ca to reserve your spot. In each session with Cody, he will tell his personal story, provide an introduction to Deaf Culture and ASL and guide you through hands-on activities to help you learn ASL.
