Food and music fans are getting ready for another weekend of lip smackin’ hip shakin’ fun, this time without having to pay an admission fee to access the outdoor festival site.
The 6th annual 680 CJOB Winnipeg BBQ & Blues Festival Presented by Luxe Barbeque Company will take over Smith Street in front of the Burton Cummings Theatre Friday and Saturday, August 11 and 12, 2017 and will feature the best in international, national and local blues performers.
This year’s event offers free admission to the outdoor festival grounds, provided by the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ and the Host It Downtown Fund. And festival goers will enjoy enhanced food options that include several stations of world class barbeque, as well as food and product demonstrations from Luxe Barbeque Company and Manitoba Pork.
“We are pleased to once again host the Winnipeg BBQ & Blues Festival that will see the downtown core filled with the delicious smells of barbeque and soulful sounds of Blues music,” said Kevin Donnelly, True North Sports + Entertainment senior vice-president of venue and entertainment.
“And with the announcement of free outdoor admission, we hope to make this into a real street party with loads of food options and music.”
Tickets are currently on sale at Ticketmaster for this year’s headlining acts playing the Burton Cummings Theatre stage both nights. The Fabulous Thunderbirds featuring Kim Wilson with supporting acts MonkeyJunk and Romi Mayes will headline on Friday night with The Blind Boys of Alabama featuring The Mariachi Ghost and Jack Semple, taking the stage on Saturday night.
The outdoor festival site will showcase hours of entertainment on both days. The line-up includes the likes of: Big Dave McLean, The Perpetrators, Jack Semple, The Wind Ups, Reverend Rambler, Scott Nolan, Claire Bestland, B Side Champs, Andrina Turenne and Angel Calnik and Hillbilly Burlesque.
“This year’s Winnipeg BBQ and Blues Festival promises to be a great event for music fans of all generations,” said Rick Fenton, artistic director of the festival.
“From The Blind Boys of Alabama to the Fabulous Thunderbirds, MonkeyJunk and a host of incredible artists from across Canada, we’re looking forward to some legendary performances. We have always been blessed to have a strong connection to our local music scene and this year is no different. The outdoor stage will be presenting a great depth of talent for our patrons to enjoy along with cold beverages and a wealth of BBQ dishes. We’re looking forward to our best year ever and I look forward to seeing everyone downtown on the 11th and 12th of August,” Fenton added.
