WATCH ABOVE: Personal life experience is the driving force behind “Black and Blue,” the new album from Saskatoon musician Dick MacInnis

On February 14th and 15th 2017, Dick MacInnis releases “Black and Blue”, his first full length album since 2009’s “Everything You’ve Heard About Love” and the long awaited second installment in his “Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll” trilogy. It is the quintessential “breakup album” having been written while MacInnis was in the process of divorce, addiction, and subsequent recovery from both. As the album’s dedication reads: “This album is dedicated to anyone who has ever been in an abusive relationship.

Whether it was with a person, a substance or a situation, and whether you were the victim, the abuser, or simply a bystander. Sometimes we hurt others, sometimes they hurt us. Sometimes we just hurt. For the addicts and lovers, the sisters and brothers, the mothers and fathers, the sons and the daughters: Keep your chin up.”

Musically, “Black and Blue” is MacInnis’ best offering yet, as both a continuation and expansion on the catchy, clever, and always interesting songs he’s made a career of. He brings together the professional production of his “Control” EP, the folk leanings of 2011’s “Hope” EP, and the straight ahead rock and roll of “Everything You’ve Heard About Love” with an increased focus on rhythms and beats, giving some parts of the album a more primitive tribal feel, without losing the soaring melodies his fans have come to expect.

Ever the optimist, one can clearly follow the concept of this album as MacInnis moves from indifference on the opening track, through despair, and finally into hopefulness and gratitude by the album’s end.

Dick MacInnis will be performing “Black and Blue” in its entirety, as well as many past and unreleased hits, at a special two night album release show at Bud’s on Broadway in Saskatoon.

Dick MacInnis has been writing and performing professionally since 1999, touring extensively throughout western Canada both as a solo artist and as a member of several bands including the $ellout$ and Pleasurefly. He was raised in Morse, Saskatchewan, and has called Saskatoon his home since 2005.

To contact Dick MacInnis, email dick.macinnis@volocian.com or phone or text 306-514-2619.

This album will be available for download at Volocian.com, the videos will be available on YouTube, and both will be available on iTunes, Google Play Music, Spotify, and all other major online music distributors within a few days of their official release.
