#BeCubed Mural Reveal

May 27

Please join us Saturday, May 27 to witness the official unveiling of Bridgeland’s #becubed mural. In September 2016, through the imaginative collaboration of Buds of Buds, Bucci and Beakerhead (BBB), the #becubed mural competition was opened up to Calgary makers. The first phase of the expansive mural was created collaboratively by artists Ivan Ostapenko, Tanner Hamilton, and Chris Casso, with artistic direction from Kathryn Pearce. Participants from the community painted a pre-fabricated cube, photographed it and entered the competition to complete the mural by tagging their works with #becubed on Instagram. Through judicial panel, Michelle Hoogveld was announced our winning artist! Her colourful contribution adds vibrancy to this mural in a much-loved space in Bridgeland. Please join us in celebration at our ribbon cutting Saturday, May 27 in the Bucci Radius parking lot (102 4 St NE) near Luke’s Drug Mart from 5 to 5:45 pm. The event will include story-telling on the making of the mural and opportunities to meet the artist team. Thank you for showing your support to artists in our community. PSA: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 4th, 2017 Locks & Frocks 7 Hair & Fashion Charity Gala In support of The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Alberta We are extremely pleased to announce that we are producing the “Locks & Frocks 7” which is to take place Saturday May 27th, 2017. Locks & Frocks is an evening of Divine Decadence. Whether it was the awe-inspiring angel winged models, the ambiance of the fashion floating through the private gallery of the Freemason Hall or the beat of the outstanding music; everyone that will be in attendance will feel that they have been transported to an event that would be in New York, Miami or LA. We continue to challenge the hair artists over the last couple of years and we were never let down. We are now pleased to present the 7th instalment of this Gala in support of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Alberta. “Locks & Frocks 7” believes in showcasing the talents and uniqueness in Calgary through the amazing Hair styling talents of dk.envy, Shag Salon and Chrome Hair Design. These talented stylists will be paired with the beautiful fashions from local designers, boutiques and stylists. Now why should you attend? Well this year’s Locks & Frocks 7 is in support of the Ronald Mcdonald House Charities of Southern Alberta. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Alberta has proudly acknowledged us; Delisle Marketing & Events Inc in our endeavor to raise much needed funds for them. The proceeds raised through Locks & Frocks 7 will go to their area of greatest needs. Since 1985, Ronald McDonald House Charities® Southern Alberta has been an affordable, home-like place to stay for families who must travel to Calgary for their child’s medical treatment. While every effort is made to keep the cost of maintaining and operating the House to a minimum, it will take approximately $3.1 million to operate the House each year. The House relies on dedicated support from our friends in the corporate community and individual contributors to make the House a safe and welcoming place for sick children and their families. “When our lives felt like they were falling apart, the House staff and volunteers were our pillars of strength, holding us together and instilling a sense of normalcy in our lives.”– The McPhee Family Per night, we operate each family suite at a cost of $182 and charge a nominal fee of $12 to the families staying with us. Each donation increment of $170 covers the difference between our cost and what we charge to the families. Our goal with this event is to raise at least 100 nights for the house- $17,000. The evening will offer exquisite culinary cuisine presented by 3 restaurants, signature beverages, live entertainment, the highly anticipated Hair/Fashion show, Live & Silent auction and live entertainment including a band-Dj intermigration. Travel from “far, far away” galaxies to middle-earth, with songs made familiar through gaming consoles and big budget movies. Join Mount Royal Kantorei with the Kantorei Academy Orchestra, and Bishop Carroll High School Chamber Choir for a fantastic evening. Program highlights include pieces from Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Civilization 4, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Final Fantasy VII. The diverse fantasy worlds result in an unusual selection of languages, with songs in Swahili (“Baba Yetu”, Civilization 4), Urdu (“Zikr”, Bose: The Forgotten Hero), Sindarin (“Evenstar”, The Two Towers), Dovahzul (“The Song of the Dragonborn”, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim), more traditional Latin (“One Winged Angel”, Final Fantasy VII), plus some selections in English. Top it all off with a bit of Shakespeare (“Double Trouble”, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban). It might sound challenging, but we guarantee that you will be singing along from your seat! Sound of the Hollow

May 27

On May 27th & 28th, The Mount Royal University Conservatory’s Artio Choir presents “Sound of the Hollow”, a choral theatre production about finding solidarity with others to overcome one’s own personal hell. Under the direction of Jean-Louis Bleau, recognized by Avenue Magazine in 2014 as one of Calgary’s ‘Top 40 Under 40’, Artio pushes the boundaries of choral performance by coalescing choral music with Japanese Taiko drumming in collaboration with Paula Midori Nieckar. Artio performs not only for the ears, but also for the eyes, with dynamic visuals and choreography by award-winning choreographer Mark Kunji Ikeda. Join Artio as they immerse you in a musical journey you won’t soon forget. “Sound of the Hollow” explores the turbulent and conflicted emotions that can often consume us as we journey through life. Internal battles that rage and draw us into a world of darkness and despair, a world where we struggle to see the beauty that surrounds us, the “sound of the hollow”. Full details
