Wesla Wong

Meteorologist

Wesla joined Global Okanagan after working at sister station Global BC in Vancouver.

Global Okanagan (then CHBC) was where she had her first experience with live TV.  Former Global Okanagan weatherman Mike Roberts trained her how to do her first weathercast, and Wesla is thrilled to return to where it all started.  What’s even more exciting is that this time around, she gets to share her love of weather with meteorologist Duane English; her partner at work and at home.

Wesla’s passion for weather was something that she discovered accidentally.  Her initial post-secondary educational experience was at Simon Fraser University where she completed her degree in communications and criminology. After working alongside Global BC meteorologist Mark Madryga every morning for years, Wesla realized that she too enjoyed trying to decipher what’s behind all of those isobars.  She then decided to go back to school and completed the meteorology program at Mississippi State University.

When not looking at weather charts, you can find Wesla out with her dogs, jamming on the piano or playing soccer.

If you have any weather questions, feel free to contact Wesla on twitter (@weslawong).  You can also visit Duane and Wesla’s blog at www.mybcweather.com

The weather couple also loves to show your photos on the Global Okanagan! You can tweet photos or email pictures to Okanagan@globalnews.ca
