Steve Silva
Digital Broadcast Journalist

Steve Silva is a video journalist (VJ) for Global News. Being a VJ means he shoots and edits his stories solo, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Born and raised in Toronto, his journalistic adventures have led him to New York City, where he earned his master’s degree (broadcast journalism) at Columbia University. There, he covered residents’ efforts to prepare for 2012’s Hurricane Sandy and, later, deal with the devastating aftermath. Previously, he earned his bachelor of journalism from Ryerson University in Toronto.

He started reporting for Global News in Regina in 2013. Most of his stories were contained in the city, but he had a passion for covering stories in smaller communities – places where the TV cameras rarely go. He’ll never forget driving through intense rain and arriving at washed-out roads while covering 2014’s Saskatchewan floods.

He moved to Halifax in September 2015 to report for Global News. His passion is storytelling. If you’ve got a newsworthy tale to tell, feel encouraged to contact him.
