Sean O’Shea
Consumer and Investigative Reporter
Seán O’Shea is regarded as one of the most tenacious news reporters in Canada. He was nominated in 2023 for a Canadian Screen Award in the best local reporter category.
In 2022, O’Shea was honoured by Toronto Life Magazine on its list of the 50 most influential people in the city.
The magazine recognized O’Shea for his extended coverage of Canada’s protest convoy and described him as “something of a cult hero—the most trustworthy and definitive source of information on the biggest story of the country, not just for Canadians but for viewers around the globe.”
Also in 2022, O’Shea reported extensively for Global News from Ukraine on Russia’s invasion including on-scene reports from a shopping mall in Kremenchuk after two cruise missiles killed at least 20 people.
O’Shea has reported from around the world in his career, but now primarily focuses on consumer investigative reports that hold businesses and governments accountable to the public.
O’Shea has exposed organized crime figures, scam artists and unscrupulous contractors at frequent risk. He was once assaulted on camera by members of a biker gang who sprayed him with a fire extinguisher.
In 2020, O’Shea received a Lifetime Achievement Award from RTDNA Canada for his contributions to Canadian broadcast journalism. He has worked as an on-air reporter at Global News Toronto for more than 35 years.
Born in Calgary, O’Shea began his television career at CBC News. He has also worked in radio and print journalism. He is a graduate of the University of Regina, School of Journalism.
