The TV news world has changed a lot since Peter’s career began in 1992.
His first job as an editorial assistant involved taking scripts from upright typewriters and running them around a national newsroom by hand; his first on-air job involved carrying a video camera and a recorder the size of a suitcase.
It’s a different world today. Peter produces and anchors Global Winnipeg’s Evening News and contributes to Globalnews.ca in a fully digital newsroom. Global Winnipeg is the first local news broadcast in High Definition, and uses the city’s first and only dedicated TV News helicopter.
But that’s not the best part.
“We have the best mix of experience and enthusiasm in our team, who are tons of fun to work with,” he says.
Peter was a reporter and anchor at Global Winnipeg in the mid-1990’s and returned to become Supervising Producer and News Anchor in 2007. He’s also worked at CBC National News in Toronto; MCTV News in Timmins, ON; Global Edmonton and was Parliament Hill correspondent for CITY-TV and A-Channel stations from 2000 to 2007. He has a Bachelor of Journalism and History from Carleton University in Ottawa (1988 – 1992).
He received a CANPRO Gold medal for his series on Canadian troops in Bosnia in 1997 and an RTNDA award for best spot news coverage in 1999.
