Neetu Garcha

Neetu Garcha is an award-winning Global News reporter and anchor based in Vancouver. 

A former reporter for Global BC where she has covered everything from Indigenous stories, crime, and politics to breaking news and international crises, Neetu joined Global National as a National Correspondent in May 2022.   

The recipient of numerous awards, she received the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ Broadcast Performer of the Year in 2022, the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters Broadcast Performer of Tomorrow award in 2018 and was a finalist for the 2021 Jack Webster Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion Reporting award for her coverage of the India farmers’ protest and its impact on British Columbians. 

Some of her career highlights include covering the 2023 wildfire season from across Alberta, BC, and in Maui when devastating flames killed hundreds and destroyed Lahaina, reporting reporting from U.S. military bases in Japan and a Canadian aircraft when it was intercepted by a Chinese jet, hosting Global National live from Edmonton in July of 2022 during the papal visit to Canada, and filing a series of enterprise stories about the impact of the visit on survivors and the calls to action on the issues raised with the church, reporting from Washington,  D.C. on U.S. politics and international issues affecting both Canada and the U.S., reporting from the United Nations headquarters in New York City where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was meeting with other world and industry leaders, and travelling to Rome to cover the Indigenous delegation meetings with Pope Francis in Vatican City. 

Neetu was also the reporter, producer and writer of Global News’ acclaimed investigative crime program Crime Beat for the season 3-episode, Forbidden Love: The Murder of Jassi Sidhu, the story of a newlywed from British Columbia who was attacked and killed while visiting India. 

Born and raised in Penticton, B.C., Neetu is a graduate of the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) and the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO). She began her broadcast career at Global Okanagan in 2014 and joined the team at Global BC in 2017. 

When Neetu’s not working, she’s likely spending time with her family and friends, exercising, travelling or reading a good book. Her not-so-guilty pleasure is definitely chocolate.
