Eric Cohen

Eric Cohen was born and raised in Montreal, where he studied Communications at Concordia University.

In 2000, Eric started working for Global Television as a regular on-air contributor and music columnist for the station’s daily morning broadcast, This Morning Live in Montreal.

Around the same time, Eric worked behind the scenes at Musiqueplus, while cutting his teeth as a field producer for Book Television.

After spending several years doing freelance production work for various American TV programs including The Sundance Channel’s Iconoclasts, and Discovery Channel’s Vacation Challenge, Eric went to Toronto to become a features producer for Entertainment Tonight Canada, while continuing to be a music columnist for Global Toronto’s daily morning show.

Upon his return to Montreal in 2009, Eric rejoined the Global Quebec team as an occasional host for Summer in the City.

He also began to work for Global News in Montreal as a general assignment reporter.

Eric also provides content for various online publications and websites, and plays drums in several bands in Montreal.

Professional “Ah ha” moment: When writing an article about innovative music videos, I included the song ‘Take On Me’ by… wait for it… A-ha!!!

Most interesting thing about being a journalist: There is something both challenging and inspiring about coming to work without any knowledge of what will make news that day, and being sent out to tell the story, whatever it may be.

Favourite Montreal band(s): Too many to name them all, but here are a few: Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Suuns, Besnard Lakes, Patrick Watson, Chromeo, Priestess, A-Trak, Half Moon Run, Kid Koala, Malajube

Found relaxing, I’d be: Biking along the Lachine Canal, Mount Royal, or Parc Maisonneuve and taking a break to sit in the grass

You can never have too many: I’ve always dreamed of the never-ending shish taouk sandwich, the forever-full bag of crunchy green grapes, or eternal summer in the city!

Most underrated virtue: Ability to step back and see the big picture, staying calm in the face of an ever-changing world

Greatest extravagance: Taking a trip to somewhere exotic whenever I get the chance

Accomplishment I’m most proud of: Choosing the road less traveled

One day I hope to: Look back and smile, knowing that I lived by my convictions and played by my passions
